Brigitte Alarcon

Brigitte Alarcon has joined the Europe Beyond Coal Secretariat as a Campaigner to look after our Finance and Utilities work.

A French national, Brigitte holds a MSc in Political Science and a MSc in Environmental Law from the University of Aix-Marseille. Aside from a brief stint with an environmental consultancy, she has built her career working for NGOs on issues ranging from animal welfare to human health to sustainability.

A passionate environmentalist, she worked for seven years at WWF-UK: first in a role in which she sought to advance the adoption of sustainable diets in the EU ; she then was responsible for engaging with WWF’s corporate partners on issues including sustainable finance and climate change.

In her spare time, she enjoys diving, dancing and playing chess.

Inaugurated in April 2022, the 204MW Kozani solar park, built adjacent to several lignite mines, is the largest utility-scale solar farm in southeastern Europe. The first of a planned 3GW of solar power to be built in the country’s lignite regions, it represents just the beginning of Greece’s ongoing massive expansion of solar generation capacity.
