Ptolemaida 5, the last new coal plant in Greece

Caption
Kozani, Greece, 17 September, 2021 - The construction of Ptolemaida 5, the last new coal plant in Greece, nears completion. The plant will run for only a short period of time, as it is due to be converted to gas in 2025 as Greek state-owned utility PPC makes a rapid transformation from coal to renewable energy as part of the country's commitment to ending coal use by 2025. All other coal plants in Greece are currently scheduled for closure in 2023. Greg McNevin / Europe Beyond Coal
