In her role as coordinator of NGO efforts to phase out coal with the Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, Kathrin led the development of the Europe Beyond Coal Campaign. Kathrin brings with her more than fifteen years of expertise
with network coordination, climate & energy policy and advocacy, having worked as Head of Policy & Advocacy with WWF International’s Climate Program and in different capacities with Climate Analytics, the European Climate Foundation, the German Environment Ministry, the Green Party in the German Bundestag and Greenpeace International. She has served on the Board of the Climate Action Network International and the Board of the Youth Organization of Friends of the Earth Germany, the BUNDjugend. She holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin.

Mahi Sideridou

Managing Director

With over fifteen years in environmental campaigning and political advocacy, and ten years experience in team coordination and line-management, Mahi is a physicist by training and an expert on climate and energy issues. She worked for Greenpeace between 2000 and 2015, first as a climate campaigner in Greece, and then as EU climate and energy policy director and as managing director for Greenpeace European Unit. She sat on the board of directors of Climate Action Network Europe for ten years and is currently on the board of Greenpeace Czech Republic. She speaks Greek, English, French and Danish.

Communications Director

Formerly strategic communications director for the Global Call for Climate action and a long time media relations specialist with Greenpeace International, Greg has worked on human rights and environmental issues around the world, covering issues such as oceans, whaling, deforestation, climate change, coal mining and nuclear power. He has a keen interest in the intersection of activism, technology, and visual arts, and how to tell more human stories in a constantly evolving digital world.

Campaign Researcher

Elena has been part of Europe-wide coordination efforts of NGOs in the field of coal for five years now. Having worked on preventing the building of new coal power plants all over Europe as a student researcher with Climate Alliance Germany, she has last been coordinating the coal phase-out efforts of the NGO coal network as Coal Policy Officer with CAN Europe. In that role she worked towards building the Europe Beyond Coal campaign. Elena studied Political Science in Heidelberg, Granada and Berlin and speaks English, German, Spanish, and French.

Felix Reitz

Felix Reitz

Energy Analyst

Felix holds a Master in Industrial Engineering and Management from Berlin Technical University and joined Europe Beyond Coal in 2017. He has a strong background in energy market modelling and quantitative research and has co-authored several scientific publications on the future of coal and lignite. Prior to his engagement for the campaign he worked for Markedskraft Germany, German Institute of Economic Research (DIW Berlin), LBD Beratungsgesellschaft and Öko-Institut. As member of the team he underpins the daily and strategic work with data-driven analyses. He speaks German, English and French.

Emilia Ochoa

Web and Office Administrator

Emilia holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences and before joining our Team as Office and Web Administrator she worked in communications for a UNDP agency. Previously, she finished her journalistic studies in Germany and interned in different Mexican Missions, assisting cultural and bilateral cooperation projects. She is passionate about learning and communicating on climate change and is particularly interested in creative approaches to engaging on climate action. She speaks Spanish, German, English and Portuguese.

Zala studied Social Sciences in Ljubljana and Lisbon and worked for various student, worker’s or human rights organisations, such as Amnesty International Slovenia, before she became engaged in environmental campaigning. Formerly international project lead for Greenpeace Central and Eastern Europe, she joined the Europe Beyond Coal Secretariat in 2018. She is passionate about progressive social change, climate justice, direct democracy and supporting local communities and grassroots movements. She speaks English, German and Slovene.

Kaarina Kolle

Finance and Utility Coordinator (Western utilities)

Kaarina works at WWF European Policy Office as the Europe Beyond Coal Finance and Utility Coordinator. Prior to this, she worked at WWF Finland on climate, energy, corporations and financial markets. She started her career at the UNEP Brussels Liaison Office and the European Commission in the Directorate-General Climate Action, focusing on international climate finance. Kaarina holds an MSc in Environmental Policy at Oxford. She is the dual citizen of Finland and Germany. She speaks Finnish, English, German, French and Swedish.

Finance and Utility Coordinator (Eastern utilities)

Jiri supports the Europe Beyond Coal work around finance and utilities, focused primarily on institutions from Central and Eastern Europe.  He has worked for many years for Greenpeace in various positions and countries, focusing mostly on climate change, UN negotiations, coal and renewables. Jiri studied business and administration as well as culture and social ecology. He has lived and worked in Belgium, Germany, Poland, Romania and South Korea, now based in Prague, Czech Republic.
